Description

New Zealand - Large - Adult - Male - Rabbit - Everest
Description
Pet's Name: Everest Age: 3 Years Breed: New Zealand Color/Markings: White, one notched ear Personality: Mellow, easy-going Social Behavior: Social with Flossie, likes cats Arrival Date: (Rescue Transfer) 06/09 Origin: Berkeley Animal Control Special Needs: None Additional Notes: Everest is a big handsome lump of a white bunny who is closely bonded with his girl, Flossie. Both Flossie and Everest prefer the company of each other for the most part, and are very undemanding bunnies. They like to get their hay, their pellets, their greens, some time running playing outside of their pen and to be able to visit with their humans. Foster Location: North Star Rescue in Santa Rosa Are you interested in adopting a Rabbit from North Star Rescue? Our adoption fee for each Rabbit is $50, or $75 for bonded pairs. We ask that our rabbits be housed as indoor pets, and prefer that most rabbits live in an X-Pen Environment. Rabbits may be adopted singularly or in bonded pairs (if already bonded). We ask that our bonded pairs who adore each other be allowed to stay together. We are happy to offer bunny match making services for owners of single bunnies who need a friend. All Rabbits are Spayed or Neutered if old enough, or will need to be brought back to the rescue at the appropriate age to be spayed or neutered at no additional cost. If you would like to adopt a Rabbit, please e-mail adoptions@northstarrescue.org and include: The Rabbit(s) you are interested in The Type of Habitat you will provide for the Rabbit(s) Any past care experience you have with Rabbit, or information about how you have prepared to care for your new pet(s) Who will be the Primary Caregiver (MUST be over 18), Who else will be handling the pet(s) and their respective ages if under 18 What you are ideally looking for in a new pet Before adopting a Rabbit, please note: Rabbits typically live for 8-12 years, and can live longer. Many rabbits do not like to be held and cuddled, and prefer to interact with their owners on the floor. Rabbits should be housed indoors, and we recommend housing them in an X-Pen with a litter box and room for their other toys and accessories. Dwarf Rabbits do not take up less room then large breed rabbits, and have more exercise needs as a more active breed then some larger breed rabbits. Rabbits CAN live happily with respectful cats and dogs, with proper supervised introductions and interactions. Many Rabbits enjoy the company of other friendly household pets. Rabbits need regular vet care during their life, including dental check ups. Rabbits need daily play time outside of their cage and interacting with their humans. They are not low maintenance pets and need regular brushing and nail trimming. Rabbits should have their litter box cleaned every day to every other day. Rabbits can be housed trained like a cat or a dog. Rabbits need regular access to hay and water, as well as a limited daily ration of pellets, and fresh greens. Different breeds of rabbits may require different maintenance. Long haired breeds require regular and sometimes professional grooming services. Rabbits are individuals, and the idea that "lops are mellow" or "dwarf bunnies are mean" do not hold true. Each rabbit is different, regardless of breed. Bringing home a baby rabbit is very similar to bringing home a puppy. It is not necessary to get a rabbit as a baby in order for it to bond with you, and well adjusted adult rabbits often have an easier time transitioning into new homes and bonding with new humans.
