SITAR LESSONS! Are you interested in learning sitar and/or expanding your knowledge and appreciation of North Indian Classical music?

Beginners, children, and musicians interested in learning the sitar or learning Indian Classical music on their own instruments are welcome.

- Acquire a firm grounding in the theory and structure of North Indian Classical Raga and Tal (rhythm)

- Develop proper form and technique

- Learn the care, handling and maintenance of the sitar

- Support in selection or evaluation of an instrument
Individualized lessons held in Berkeley (Thursdays), San Francisco (Saturdays) and San Rafael (by appointment).

Sitars may be available for use without cost at these locations.

$50.00 per hour (Some kind of work exchange may be possible)

Joanna is available for teaching students of all levels. She has returned to the Bay Area after living in Calcutta since 1997 and studying under the renowned sitarist Deepak Choudhury, senior disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar, the legendary exponent of the Maihar Gharana. She is a supporter of and continues to attend classes at the AACM.
