Description

Sand Dune - Ruth Bernhard 1967 27" X 14" Ruth Bernhard is the woman that Ansel Adams called "the greatest photographer of the nude." Her work can be found in most major museum collections throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. "If I have chosen the female form in particular, it is because beauty has been debased and exploited in our "-------" twentieth century. We seem to have a need to turn innocent nature into evil ugliness by the twist of the mind. Woman has been the target of much that is sordid and cheap, especially in photography. To raise, to elevate, to endorse with timeless reverence the image of woman, has been my mission - the reason for my work which you see here." Ruth Bernhard 1905-2006 She continued to lecture and conduct master classes throughout the United States through her 95th birthday and died in San Francisco at age 101 years. This print is beautifully mounted and lacquered onto a sturdy wood panel that is 7/8'' deep by the craftsmen of the Reprint Mint; creating a box or “stretched canvas” look; without requiring glass. The side edges are finished with a durable bonded black accent material (see sample image below); then the print is sealed with a clear finish and is ready for hanging... giving the appearance of floating on your wall. Makes a GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT!
