Well, they've finally revived one of the greatest musicals ever written, "South Pacific"; and here is your chance to own the original tableware made expressly for the movie. Some of the very best pottery and dinnerware from the 1950's was made by companies which later came to be known as the California School of Design; among them were Winfield, Orchard and, of course, Brock (aka Brockware). Known for using the highest quality materials and for their innovative use of non-traditional colors and patterns, Brock was certainly one of the most revered from that group and period. This is a 62-piece dinnerware set in the "South Pacific" pattern, it was the most famous of their designs (their "flagship" if you will), and was always my mother's favorite. As I understand it, this very limited edition pattern was only available during the initial 1950's showing of that classic movie musical, currently back in production on the San Francisco stage. This is an extremely hard to find pattern, and is highly prized by collectors today. This group is comprised of the following pieces: 10" dinner plates (16), 3 with tiny chips and 3 with larger chips; 6.5" salad plates (15), 1 has a tiny chip and 2 have larger chips; 4"x2" coffee cups (12), 1 is chipped, and 6.25" saucers (12), no chips; 5"x1" bowls (2), each with a tiny chip; Tri-footed 6"x4"x3" creamer (2), one has a repaired handle; and two 4"x3" tri-footed sugar bowls (with only 1 lid), all 3 of these pieces have tiny chips (by the way, when I say "tiny chip", it is so small that I missed most of them at first glance, and only saw them upon extremely close inspection). A beautiful and highly collectable set, still currently listed by Replacements Ltd., although they have none at this time.
