Description: This unique hand-carved vase or brush pot was purchased in old Shanghai by my lovely wife's grandmother just before the turn of the century. It was kept in her curio cabinet for 60 years, and then given to us as a wedding gift. I am embarrassed to admit that we never used it; and, although my wife is sad to part with something from her "Grammy", she agrees that since we haven't used it in 40 years we probably never will; it's time to let someone else have it. The colors in the photo are pretty accurate and there are no chips, cracks or breaks of any kind. The vase is adorned by a mythical winged horse (symbolizing freedom) flying over "the tree of life"; everything was intricately carved from the same piece of stone. Mounted on an equally finely carved base, the entire unit is surprisingly heavy. It is about 4" x 4" x 6" high not counting the base (which adds an extra 1" in each direction).
